FAQs
Do CPAP chin straps actually work?
They help, but they are not a seal. A chin strap supports your jaw so your mouth stays closed, which reduces air leaks and dry mouth. It works best with a nasal mask at low to moderate pressure. At higher pressures air can still escape past the lips, and a full face mask is more dependable.
Do I need a prescription for a CPAP chin strap?
No. Chin straps are accessories and do not require a prescription. CPAP masks and machines do.
Which CPAP chin strap should I choose?
They all do the same job, so it comes down to how much strap sits on your head and how adjustable it is. The Sunset Halo Style ($7.99) uses a minimal band, the ResMed Chinstrap ($14.99) works with both CPAP and bilevel therapy, and the Sunset Healthcare Premium ($24.99) is the most adjustable.
Can I use a chin strap with a full face mask?
Usually you do not need to. A full face mask already covers the mouth, so an open jaw does not break therapy. Chin straps are normally paired with nasal masks and nasal pillow masks.
